![]() Wages are one of the most important factors that people evaluate when choosing a job, and graphic designers are no exception. Small cities are metropolitan areas with fewer than 250,000 residents.Mid-size cities are metropolitan areas with between 250,000 and 750,000 residents.Large cities are metropolitan areas with between 750,000 and 2 million residents.Major cities are metropolitan areas with upwards of 2 million residents.In order to avoid comparing apples with oranges, we break cities into four different categories and analyze them within this schema. Larger cities have larger economies than smaller cities. A location quotient less than one indicates that employed graphic designers are less prevalent in this area than average. As a statistic, the location quotient is the concentration of employed graphic designers in a particular area compared with the national average.Ī location quotient greater than one indicates graphic designers comprise a higher share of employed people in this area compared to the nation as a whole. The location quotient can be used to understand the likelihood that a graphic designer will find employment in any given metropolitan area.
